§ 21-15. Speed limit for trains at crossings.

  • Any engineer, fireman, conductor or other person in charge or control of any locomotive or train of cars, who shall operate the same across any open and maintained public street crossing within the city limits at a greater rate of speed than twenty-five (25) miles per hour, shall be guilty of an offense, and upon conviction, shall be punished as provided by section 1-8 of this Code; provided, however, that where automatic crossing protection gates, or where warning bells and lights have been installed at such crossings, such locomotives or trains of cars may be operated across such crossings at a speed not to exceed seventy-nine (79) miles per hour, so long as such automatic crossing protection gates, warning bells and lights are in good working condition.
