§ 21-17. Designation of truck routes, weight limits for vehicles, etc.

  • (a)

    The chief of police is hereby authorized to designate certain streets as truck routes to be used for the expeditious and convenient movement of farm tractors, trailers, semitrailers, trucks and other commercial vehicle traffic. Such designation shall take effect ten (10) days from the day the chief files with the city clerk a list designating such streets and upon the effective posting of signs on such streets so designating them.

    (b)

    The chief of police is hereby authorized to prohibit the use of the roadway by farm tractors, trailers, semitrailers and by trucks and other commercial vehicles, except that he cannot prohibit local delivery. The chief is further authorized to impose limitations as to the weight of vehicles using designated streets where, in his opinion, the public safety or welfare is concerned. Prohibitions and limitations prescribed pursuant to this subsection shall not become effective until ten (10) days subsequent to the chief's filing with the city clerk a list of said designations and locations and further until notice thereof is given by means of appropriate signs placed on said streets.
