§ 6-2. General powers and duties of fire chief.

  • (a)

    The chief of the fire department shall direct the members of the department and it shall be his duty to see that the department attends fires promptly and renders efficient service.

    (b)

    The chief of the fire department shall have the authority to promulgate rules and regulations governing fire department personnel not in conflict with civil service rules or other laws.

    (c)

    The chief of the fire department shall have charge of all apparatus and equipment belonging to the department, including the fire station and sleeping quarters. He shall have authority to have repair made upon such equipment when necessary.

    (d)

    It shall be the duty of the chief of the fire department to make and deliver to the city manager a yearly inventory of all equipment belonging to the department.

    (e)

    It shall be the duty of the chief of the fire department, or any officer or member thereof designated by him, to strictly enforce the provisions of this chapter and any relevant or pertinent sections of this Code; to issue legal notices to correct violations; and to take out warrants for the arrest of violators failing to comply with any order issued pursuant to the authority of this chapter.
