§ 8-19. Report of gunshot wounds.

  • Every physician, doctor, surgeon, nurse or private person, who in the first instance is called upon and does give medical treatment or relief to, or perform surgery upon a person afflicted with a gunshot wound from a pistol, rifle or shotgun, in the city, shall, within one (1) hour after such treatment is administered, notify the police department of the city of such medical or surgical treatment, stating the name, age and place of residence of the person treated, the nature of the wound, the cause thereof and circumstances surrounding the injury, as far as he is able to ascertain. Other persons, later treating the patient, with the knowledge that a physician or medical advisor in this city has previously treated the patient for such wound, shall not be required to give such notice.
